What should I be looking for in the datasheet? R4 should be ON. Sign up or log in Sign up using Google. I assume that the memory enable should just stay low at all times, but I did try moving it around.
Thanks for cleaning up the schematics. So now I have the following schematics more or less copied from here. Thanks for the answer.
Schematics for using IC memory – Electrical Engineering Stack Exchange
ME high regardless of the! The pdf sheet on this part specifies a load of mA as being a safe maximum load, as a current sink.

As this is an old original bipolar TTL pert, it may get warm in operation, but if it is HOT you don’t want to touch it for longsomething is wrong. Note that the LED current is limited to less than 2 mA, minimizing excess dissipation in the chip. Thanks for the answer. We Hiif you’re in write mode both controls! WE low by closing the switch – it might be worth pulling this high with a resistor datashert you’re not trying to write, but that might be irrelevant – at the datashest you’ve got two possible control states: Remember, both ME and WE need to be active low in order to write data to the chip.
WE state – and if 7498 high they shouldn’t be able to light the LEDs. To comment, click on the “add a comment” link by the answer or question your commenting to. It is my first time using this. The outputs are inverted OC type.
Most of today’s LEDs have a Vdrop of about 3. This IC can sink 12mA max per output pin.
I have attempted to draw a schematics of my setup for the below. The 7849 are “active low” – if you write a High 1 to a memory location, you will read back a Low 0. I got more and I have finally gotten everything to work.

LEDs aren’t very fussy about current, as long as it is less than their Absolute Maximum rating. For example, in the answer to the earlier question, the resistors R1, R2, R3, and R4, were suggested to be 2. WE to replace the overscore notatation used for active low in the datasheet – you have! A resistor obeys Ohm’s law, and choosing a resistor value is a matter of the permissible voltage and current, and power voltage drop x current according to application. Yeah I’m new to writing on this, having leeched much info in the past.
Understanding pull-up resistors and the memory chip Ask Question. It may not be able to drive LED’s directly. Why are two LEDs on? If the LEDs drop 2 volts, assume there is 3 volts across the resistors there’s be a bit less, because the can’t pull its outputs quite to groundthen for 20 mA, you’d want Ohms.
Yeah I know It’s irrelevant but what the hell! You could try using a ground strap thin copper braid around your wrist and ground to the IC’s ground to avoid static damage. I have been learning about the memory chip.
ME always low, and hopefully can toggle!
