Paperbackpages. Ultimately not a bad book: He writes off Native American people hauduke as he writes some of the most poignant passages about North American wilderness that I’ve ever encountered. His love for nature and extreme distrust of the industrial world influenced much of his work and helped garner a cult following. Abbey died on March 14,due to complications from surgery.
His scores make his case. The civil disobeyers flask signs, butts and bullets to stop the oives on Nature. In this, Edward Abbey’s last work before his death, he resurrects the Monkey Wrench Gang against the glorious backdrop of the American Southwest that he defended and loved. I also felt that the book was set a lot later than is implied in the text, which at certain points didn’t sit well.

Abbey’s The Fool’s Progresson the other hand, is heartbreakingly tragic, but the emotions portrayed in that book are so genuine if deeply sad that it has a power that Hayduke Lives!

Edward Abbey has a way with words And so they saddle up for one more good hit against the. Abbey became, with that reading one of my literary heroes.
Still, I liked it. At least with Cujo I read it from cover to cover but this poor excuse of a sequel I cannot even bring to words my disappointment. Even better and more radical than MWG. He’s also great at character descriptions. There are some surprises: Knowing Abbey, one can sense that he is willing the earth itself to open up and swallow the machines of man that make its surface tremble.

Abbey will fill a page with one allusion after another. And we should not forget his spirit. That being the third Abbey book, I think I will something less radical. To visit the region involved would without a doubt complete the picture painted, but the book is by no means a failure.

The Bishop’s Mormon followers warmly accept the destruction of Mother Earth, seeing it as a way to create jobs, thereby keeping their children from venturing to “California or Salt Lake City one near as wicked and Godless a place as the other Lists with This Book.

Did The Monkey Wrench Gang need a sequel? I am headed for a simple story with a plot set in Maine and a mystery that grips the innocent protagonist. Abbey is at his best when funny.
