The Life of the Cosmos is well written in a highly intellectual style. Lee Smolin in his book The Life of the Cosmos is quick to dismiss. Nowadays, astronomers estimate tje there are roughly 50 billion galaxies in the visible Universe, that is, that part of the Universe for which light has had enough od to reach us on Earth.
That little gem came in a discussion of why there is something rather than nothing. Oxford University Press is a department of the University of Oxford. The only alternative may be to look outside them. I first read this soon after it was released, and though I lifr not consider myself an expert by any means on the topics of astrophysics, I did feel comfortable to dive into Smolin’s book.

At the same time, the laws of Nature and the values of mass quantities in the new “daughter universes” differ slightly from those of the “mother universe.
But strategies for validating the appropriateness of fitness functions remain unclear at present, as do any hypotheses of adaptation with respect to the multiverse, other universes, or other black holes. Comparison between galaxies and living things is fascinating. What could be the explanation of this miracle? If the constants of nature weren’t fine tuned as they are, we wouldn’t be here to worry about the problem of fine tuning.
